Waiting in line has become the norm in waiting for food aides to be delivered for children in Port Au Prince, Haiti.

A bag of water handed out per person. No water supply, polluted water ways, still.

6 years on and schooling has helped children to continue some normality of life in Haiti.

Vision and Mission
To create an educational environment which purposely incorporates an awareness of earthquake safety, inclusiveness and caters to the emotional, psychological and social needs of children.

Preparation for an ever changing world, natural environment and learning is essential for a safe future.
My future learning space is recognition of the emotional and psychological damage inflicted upon these children and providing a supportive and safe learning space for them. I want to create awareness of 'what to do' in an emergency (earthquake) situation, teach them the skills and knowledge for life in the future and how to deal with these situations. I will encourage inclusiveness, a sense of belonging and the space will be somewhere they want to come to feel safe and be happy. They can express themselves through creativity, talking to each other, singing, role playing, practice drills, drawing and writing. It will be their space!

Peter Haas: Haiti's disaster of engineering
An interesting Ted Talk from Peter Haas. His views on how the devastation and destruction of a city could have been prevented had the engineering and construction of buildings been better.
Education Crisis in Haiti
60-65% of children are still without access to an education. In Haiti the government states that every child is eligible for free education however with the cost of school fees, uniforms and books, families are unable to afford this cost and choosing to NOT send their children to school.
School Finally Opens
Months after the 2010 earthquake in Port Au Prince, the Department of Education told schools it was mandatory to focus on the earthquake. Children would have opportunities to discuss with their peers stories and traumatic experiences, dealing with the affects now.
